Tor on BackTrack 5 R2 & R3

Add repository
Edit file /etc/apt/sources.list and append the following line:

deb http://deb.torproject.org/torproject.org lucid main

 

Add the new key for repository

gpg --keyserver keys.gnupg.net --recv 886DDD89
gpg --export A3C4F0F979CAA22CDBA8F512EE8CBC9E886DDD89 | sudo apt-key add -

 

Update the software list

apt-get update

 

Install Tor, Vidalia and Privoxy

apt-get install tor tor-geoipdb privoxy vidalia

 

Configure Privoxy

gedit /etc/privoxy/config

Append the following line : forward-socks5 / 127.0.0.1:9050 .

 

Start the engines

/etc/init.d/privoxy start
/etc/init.d/tor start

 

Download Torbutton for firefox

https://www.torproject.org/dist/torbutton/torbutton-current.xpi

 

or

 

Open Firefox Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Settings -> Choose Manual Configuration
In HTTP Proxy field type: 127.0.0.1 and in Port field type 8118

Check option “Use this proxy server for all protocols”

 

Check if you are using tor in Firefox

https://check.torproject.org/
